The Vegan Cakery - Lemon V'Urd and Passionfruit V'Urd
Michelle is one of those people who are continually busy creating new products and always excited about her business. I have often seen images of her cakes and dainties and wished I could create such delectable and mouth watering confections and pastries. After a chat about her new product, the Passionfruit V'Urd, Michelle was good enough to send me a jar of the Passionfruit and her flagship Lemon V'Urd to Product Test. I eagerly awaited the parcel in the post.
One week later, the postman brought me a smart box to sign for, I rushed into the kitchen and opened it to find a well presented and packaged box of goodies. Namely a jar each of the Lemon V'Urd and Passionfruit V'Urd.
The jars are labelled in a clear style with all the information you need and plenty of clear glass to see the bright and fresh colours of the V'Urd within.
My first flavour test was to try the V'Urd straight from the jar on the spoon. Passionfruit V'Urd was first and it was a flavour explosion in my mouth! Such a fruity, tangy taste, smooth texture and just sweet enough! Now on to the Lemon V'Urd, I had a glass of water to cleanse my palate then a nice rounded spoonful of Lemon V'Urd. The zesty lemon zing was incredible, smooth texture and enough sweetness to make this a really flavoursome experience.
Next to try the V'Urds in recipes. I always think of Lemon Curd Tarts as one of the archetypal recipes and Butterfly Buns with Curd and 'Butter' (made with vegan margarine) cream. So these were my trial recipes.
The V'Urd Tarts looked really good, the mixture spreads nicely into the pastry tart and cools to a nice texture, not too runny and not too solid .. Just right!
I handed out several samples to my friends, both vegan and non vegan and they were all amazed at the flavour, the texture and the overall quality of the product.
Next were the Butterfly Buns, again the texture of the V'Urd was perfect, it site well on top of the butter cream and sets off the cake with its bright semi transparent sheen. Everyone agreed how tasty they were and the 'butter'cream added a creamy aspect to the flavour which made the overall experience even more like the original Curd sensation.
In Summary
Packaging - 10/10 Nice traditional looking
Texture - 10/10
Versatility - 10/10
Tasting notes - 10/10
Ease of Purchase 8/10
(I can't wait to see this on supermarket shelves.)
These are excellent products in their own right but are also a great, cruelty free and ethical replacement for commercially made non vegan curds, without the cruelty but with ALL THE TASTE!
Additional review from my Omni neighbour! Review of V'Urd by Vegan Cakery - J. Wall
"Really enjoyed the taste, consistency and tanginess they both have just the right level of sweetness. For my taste, I would like just a hint more lemon but that could be just my geedy taste buds. I would happily eat them straight from the jar with a spoon!
Overall, thank you for introducing me to this new and flavoursome experience. I will certainly purchase these V'Urds now I know how excellent they are!
